What is CPD?

"CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and is the term used to describe the learning activities professionals engage in to develop and enhance their abilities. It enables learning to become conscious and proactive, rather than passive and reactive" (The CPD Certification Service, 2021).

We believe that CPD should be meaningful. That is why we work hard to ensure that our training meets good CPD principles.

Your CPD

You can contribute to your CPD through the following steps:

  • Identify, document and monitor the skills, knowledge and experience that you gain throughout your working life;
  • Consider how this CPD is applied in practice;
  • Reflect, grow and develop as a professional.

Reflection

Reflecting is a key part of CPD. Reflection helps you to consider an incident or situation, what went well, what did not go well, and what could be done differently in the future. Reflection helps us to identify good practice and poor practice.

There are many reflective models which can be used to help professionals write reflections. However, it is not always necessary to follow a model to reflect. Sometimes, informal reflection with a colleague and a cup of tea can be just as powerful as formal reflection.

When reflecting, always remember to adhere to confidentiality. Never discuss confidential information where you could be overheard, and always keep written reflections anonymous.
