Information about the regulate qualifications available at Care Academy

We currently offer several regulated qualifications at Care Academy. These qualifications are awarded by Highfield Qualifications, an awarding body which is regulated by Ofqual.


At present, our regulated qualifications are only available to staff of LV Care Group.

Level 2 (RQF) Award in Awareness of Dementia

This qualification is designed for those learners who are working with or aspire to work with individuals who have dementia. It is a knowledge only qualification, which covers the following areas:

  • Dementia awareness;
  • The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia;
  • Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia; and
  • Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care.


Total Qualification Time: 72 hours.


Learning Method: Learners will direct themselves through online training materials in order to complete a portfolio of evidence. This is a theoretical qualification which does not require the learner to be employed in a health and social care environment.Assessment Method: Portfolio of evidence.


Entry Requirements: Learners must be a minimum of 16 years old to complete this course.

Level 3 (RQF) Administer Medication to Individuals and Monitor the Effects (standalone unit)

This unit applies to all medication used for and by individuals, both prescribed and non-prescribed. This standalone unit is the minimum requirement for health and social care support workers to be able to administer medication, under the current Jersey Care Commission standards.


Guided Learning Hours: 30 hours.


Learning Method: Learners will direct themselves through their portfolio of evidence, collecting and completing the required work for their portfolio. The learner must be employed in a health and social care environment to be able to complete this qualification. You must also be able to work with someone who already has a minimum of Level 3 (RQF) medication training/a healthcare professional with relevant medication training. You will be required to evidence this person's credentials when submitting your portfolio.


Assessment Method: Portfolio of evidence, which includes both theory and practical activities.


Entry Requirements: Learners must be a minimum of 16 years old to complete this course and must be able to prove previous level 2 study.

Level 2 (RQF) Diploma in Care

The objective of this qualification is to support a role in the workplace. This qualification forms the competence requirements for those learners working in both health and adult care settings at level 2.


The content is appropriate for roles such as adult care workers, healthcare assistants/support workers and personal assistants.


Total Qualification Time: 460 hours.


Learning Method: Learners will direct themselves through their portfolio of evidence, collecting and completing the required work for that portfolio. The learner must be employed in a health and social care environment to be able to complete this qualification.


Assessment Method: Portfolio of evidence.


Entry Requirements: Learners must be a minimum of 16 years old to complete this course.

Level 3 (RQF) Diploma in Adult Care

The objective of this qualification is to support a role in the workplace, such as lead adult care workers.


The content of the qualification covers core content that applies to the adult social care sector with a variety of optional units covering additional knowledge and skills applicable to learners in level 3 roles. Learners may also wish to select units in leadership skills and/or knowledge as part of this qualification.


Total Qualification Time: 580 hours.


Learning Method: Learners will direct themselves through their portfolio of evidence, collecting and completing the required work for that portfolio. The learner must be employed in a health and social care environment to be able to complete this qualification.


Assessment Method: Portfolio of evidence.


Entry Requirements: Learners must be a minimum of 16 years old to complete this course and must be able to prove previous level 2 study.

Level 5 Diploma (RQF) in Leadership and Management for Adult Care

This qualification aims to develop learners' skills and knowledge in leadership and management to ensure that services can respond fully to the needs and aspirations of those that use their provision.


The qualification develops leadership skills, innovation and entrepreneurial skills, the importance of embedding robust values and commitment to partnership working.


Total Qualification Time: 800 hours.


Learning Method: Learners will direct themselves through their portfolio of evidence, collecting and completing the required work for that portfolio. The learner must be employed in a health and social care environment to be able to complete this qualification.


Assessment Method: Portfolio of evidence.


Entry Requirements: Learners must be a minimum of 19 years old to complete this course and must be able to prove previous level 3 or 4 study.
